OTTUMWA — Ray A. Wise, 86, of Ottumwa, died at 8:55 a.m. December 22, 2014 at Vista Woods Care Center.
He was born December 21, 1928 in Johnson City, TN to Dewey and Oma Della Light Wise. He married Doris L. Leedom on April 30, 1952. She preceded him in death on July 6, 2006.
Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a route salesman for Lowenberg Bakery and Trausch Baking Co.
He was a member of Church of Christ Scientist, was active in the Wapello County Sheriff Reserve and was an avid NASCAR fan.
Surviving are his children, Karen (John) Pavka of Peoria, AZ, Kenneth Ray Wise of Des Moines and Dave (Joan) Wise of Ottumwa; four grandchildren, Steven (Becky) Cain, Melissa (Cal) Newman, Jaclyn (Jarod) Smith and Ben (Marisol) Wise; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Rose and a brother Bill Wise both of Johnson City, TN.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifor Wise; and a sister, Mildred Fry.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wapello County Sheriff Reserve.
