Per the 1860 U. S. Census, Eighth Ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter Mary was recorded as 5 months old. She lived in the house with her parents, Archibald, 36, and Mary, 34, both born in Ireland. She also had her sister, Anna, 4, born in Pennsylvania, brother William, 3, born in Pennsylvania (other records say Clarksboro, New Jersey), brother Leighton, 2, born in Pennsylvania, and 27 year old Maggie Porter, domestic helper, born in Ireland.

Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Church and Town Records, 1669-1999, Burial Records (pg 32): Records DOD for Mary Norris Beatty as 29 Sep 1860, age 8 mos, 12 days; Date and Place of Interment: 1 Oct 1860, Clarksboro, New Jersey; Officiating Clergyman: James May, DD.

From the 1870 Census - by January, 1870, the family was living in Fort Scott, Bourbon County, Kansas. Anna is 14, William is 12, Leighton is 11, (*Mary is deceased), Ellen May is 8, and George is 7.

In a Census found dated 1 Mar 1875, the family consisting of Archibald, 49, Mary, 35, A E, 8, N, 17 (is actually W for William), L V, 16, & G F, 12 (is G B for George Bateman) Beatty were residing in Independence Lawrence, Kansas. Ellen is not in this Census, so further proof she died before 1875. The ages aren't exactly correct but Archibald is listed as a Minister and he and his wife both born in Ireland. The children were all born in Pennsylvania except William who was born in New Jersey, as also stated in other records found.
