ADAMS -- Myrtle O. Asper, age 103, of Adams, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at Adams Health Care Center.

She was born Aug. 13, 1902, in Adams, Minn., to Otto and Mattie (Boe) Halverson. Myrtle graduated from the Adams High School and the Winona State Teachers College. She taught country schools in the LeRoy and Lyle areas prior to her marriage to Oscar C. Asper on Feb. 10, 1926, at Adams, Minn.

She was a member of the Little Cedar Lutheran Church where she was active in the WELCA, women's circles and quilting. Myrtle was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her interests included gardening, cooking and baking, and she enjoyed teaching her grandchildren at the dining room table, helping them with writing and penmanship skills.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Jim Schroeder, of Adams, Minn.; grandchildren: Cynthia (John) Jax, of Adams, Minn.; Julie Borseth, of Urbandale, Iowa; Susan (Greg) Nesheim, of Eagan, Minn.; Steve (Audrey) Schroeder, of Adams, Minn.; Darcy (Brian) Mullenbach, of Rochester, Minn.; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Alice Lindquist, of St. Paul, Minn.; Leone Krug, of Houston, Texas; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, infant son and great-grandson, five sisters and six brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Little Cedar Lutheran Church with The Rev. Shari A. Mason officiating. Interment will be in the Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery in Adams. Friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

The pianist will be Megan Schroeder. Casket bearers will be Eric Jax, Aaron Jax, Kevin Jax, Mitchell Schroeder, Matthew Schroeder, Kyle Nesheim and Jason Borseth.

The Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Myrtle Halverson Asper was born August 13, 1902, to Otto and Mattie Boe Halverson on a farm north of Adams. She was baptized in Little Cedar Church and confirmed in Marshall Church on June 17, 1917, by Rev. Normann. She attended country school and graduated from Adams High School . She then attended Winona Normal School and taught country school in Mower County.

On February 10, 1925, she was married to Oscar Asper by Rev. O. C. Brenna. They had two children, Shirley Mae (Mrs. James Schroeder) and Charles Owen, who did in infancy. They lived on their farm north of Adams until July 1964, when they purchased a house in Adams.

Myrtle has five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She is a member of ALCW, Circle, the Sewing Ladies, The American Legion Auxiliary and the Past Presidents Club.

Her favorite Bible verse is John 3:16, and her favorite hymns include "Softly and Tenderly, Jesus is Calling" and "Amazing Grace."
