Daniel Franklin Whipple, after an illness of only four days, died at 11:20 on Sunday night, at his residence near the county hospital. Mr. Whipple, although not confined to his house, had been complaining of being unwell for about two weeks prior to his death, the trouble being what might be termed Bright's disease of the kidneys. About the middle of the past week he was taken down with an attack of pneumonia, and between the two diseases he was soon obliged to succumb.

He remained conscious up to the very last, and talked calmly and resignedly of his approaching dissolution to those around him. He spoke but a short time before his death of his two absent daughters, Mrs. Dana, of Nevada, Ia., and Miss Lulu Whipple, and said he would like to live until they arrived, but added shortly after he had referred to them: "Oh well; it won't be long before I shall meet them again." He also spoke frequently of the Grand Army, of which he was a member, and to which he was deeply attached.

His wish was that the John F. Reynolds post should attend his funeral, which he requested might be held at the First Baptist church.

He was born June 1, 1836, in Chautauqua county, N. Y. He was married at Marion, Iowa, June 1, 1858, to Irene A. Boynton, whose death occurred January 2, of the present year. He served in the war of the rebellion, being a member of Company C, of the Thirty-first Iowa infantry, of which regiment he was quartermaster sergeant.

He first came to Cheyenne from Iowa in 1868 and in 1873 returned to make the city his residence. The children who survive him are Mrs. Frank Dana, of Nevada, Iowa, Mrs. W. N. Hunt, Miss Lulu Whipple, and Harry Whipple of this city. He has two brothers also here in Cheyenne, Hon. I. C. Whipple and E. C. Whipple, until recently partner of W. N. Hunt, in the drug business.

The deceased was a respected citizen with many genial qualities of heart. In business he was enterprising and up to his last illness actively engaged in commission dealing. Socially he was quite prominent, and possessed vocal musical talent of no mediocre order, being a valued member of the Baptist church choir.

During his residence here in Cheyenne he has made a host of friends among all classes, both rich and poor, and he will be truly and sincerely missed by the great mass of our people.

The funeral will take place this (Tuesday) afternoon. A short service will be held at the residence at 2:30 from which place the remains will be escorted to the First Baptist church by the J. F. Reynolds post G. A. R. where services will be held at 3 o'clock.

Besides the John F. Reynolds Post the G. G. Meade Camp of S. V., and the Pioneers of Wyoming, of which Mr. Whipple was a member, are to attend the funeral today in a body.
