Treva Eileen Schaeffer, 82, of Westlake, Ohio, formerly of Massillon, died Saturday, January 3, 2015.

Born in Bippus, Indiana, March 1, 1932, a daughter to the late Elmer and Florence (Bechtold) Rickert, Treva graduated from Bippus High School with the Class of 1950 and married her high school sweetheart, Vernon “Bud” Schaeffer in 1955.

After moving to Massillon she worked for many years as an elementary school librarian for the Massillon City Schools. She served on the board of the Salvation Army in Massillon as well as on the board of the Massillon School Employees Credit Union. She was a long-time member of the Massillon Woman’s Club and volunteered for many years at the former Massillon Community Hospital. More recently, after having relocated to the Cleveland area, she was active at Rocky River Presbyterian Church and enjoyed serving as a Red Coat at Playhouse Square. In her leisure time, Treva enjoyed gardening.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 40 years, Vernon Lee Schaeffer; her brother, Robert M. Rickert; her step-mother, Mildred Rickert-Lehman and a step-sister, Maxalene Altman; Treva is survived by her daughter, Rhonda (Scott) Miller, of Bethesda, MD and son, Mark A. (Laurie) Schaeffer, of Avon Lake, OH; her beloved granddaughters, Sarah and Catherine Grace Miller and Elizabeth and Julia Schaeffer. Also surviving is her sister, Geneva (Keith) Harris, of Oxford, MS; two sisters-in-law, Carol Woodworth and Mary Alice Rickert, and a step-sister, Alice Roth.

An interment service will take place at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service, from 10-11:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Rocky River Presbyterian Church, preceded by an hour of visitation from 6-7:00 p.m. in the church. A short reception will follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Treva’s life.

The family has suggested memorial contributions in Treva’s name be made in care of the Salvation Army, 315 - 6th Street NE, Massillon, Ohio 44646 or Rocky River Presbyterian Church, 21750 Detroit Road, Rocky River, Ohio 44116.
