Charlie was a hardworking and self-made businessman. He was the owner of C & G Paving for 30 years and continued actively working with the day to day operations of the business until his death. Charlie was an active member and Deacon at Crozet Baptist Church. Through his church ministry he enjoyed visiting with the sick and shut-ins.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Dudley, his soul mate of 62 years and was her loving provider; his son, Jeff Gray and wife, Donna of Afton; daughters, Judy Heilman and husband, Ty of Crozet, and Jane Ballard and husband, Pete of Afton; grandchildren, Chris, John, Bryan, Alisa, Nick, Laura, Jordan, and Troy; and sisters, Audrey Gray of Crozet, and Catherine Arnold of Afton.
When you see a dump truck, pass a field of cattle, enjoy the solitude of the countryside, feel the comfort of a warm hug, and sense the presence of a strong faithful leader, think of Charlie, that sweet twinkle in his eye, that gentle spirit and soft smile who was loved by so many.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2015 at Crozet Baptist Church, 5804 Saint George Avenue, Crozet, Virginia. Interment will follow at Hebron Baptist Church, 66 Tanbark Dr., Afton, Virginia.The family will receive friends Sunday, January 4, 2014 at Crozet Baptist Church from 4 until 6 p.m.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Charlie's name to Crozet Baptist Church's Caring Ministry, any local fire or rescue department, or the Moffitt Cancer Center, 12902 USF Magnolia Drive, Tampa, FL 33612.Friends may offer condolences online at teaguefuneralhome.com
