Mr. Joe Alden Owen, age 82 of Stuart, Virginia passed away at his home on Saturday, January 3, 2015. He was born in Ashe County, North Carolina on December 7, 1932 to the late Montie Owen and Cynthia Sturgill Owen. In addition to his parents Mr.Owen was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy Owen, Bill Owen, Duane Owen,and Glenn Owen and a special friend, Lucy Thomas. Joe served in the Army for three years. He graduated from Emory & Henry College and taught at Red Bank (five years), Lawsonville & North Stokes (five years)and Galax & Grayson County (two years). He worked forty-five years in the grocery business at Alexander's, Farmer's Food and Lowes Foods. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the American Legion Post 105.

Mr. Owen is survived by two sisters, Martha Howell of Lansing, North Carolina and Mary Graham of Lansing, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews and special caregivers,Ivon Thomas of Stuart, Virginia and Angie Dalton of Stuart, Virginia.

A funeral service for Mr. Owen will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 7:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Pastors Mark Wright, Lee Shelton and Don Reynolds officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at 5:00PM until time of the service and at other times at the home.

A funeral service will also be held in Mouth of Wilson, VA on Wednesday at Wolf Knob Baptist Church at 12:00PM with burial to follow in the Owen Family Cemetery.The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday one hour
