His father was a telephone lineman in Paducah, KY. His parents had divorced by 1920. His siblings were Howard, Nannie Mae, and George Edward.
His mother was in Houston, TX and married to her 2nd husband, Asa Lafayette Hays, by 1920. Alex had one half-brother from this marriage, Asa Leonard Hays.
By 1930, Alex was also in Houston, living with his mother and step-father Asa Hays. Alec was a carpenter and building contractor like his step-father.
Alex married Beulah Johns. Beulah was born abt. 1905 in Harville, Illinois. By 1940, they had 4 children: Ray Nell Burnice, Darwin Lee, James “Jimmie”, and Margaret “Margie” Ann.
Alex is buried next to his mother, step-father Asa Hays, brother George, and son Darwin Lee.
