Born May 26, 1926 in Rose Hill, NC, she was the last surviving child of the late Owen Wellington and Minnie Cornelia Raynor. She was also predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Samuel Thomas Boone, Sr.; a daughter, Mary Lillian Pate; son-in-law, Ben Ellis; brothers, Charlie Raynor, Graham Raynor and Marvin Raynor; sisters, Bernice Coombs, Alberta Deese Moore and Mary Lee Hudson.
Survivors include her devoted children, Minnie Lou Ellis, Linda Faye Hobbs and husband, Glenn, all of Clinton, Samuel Thomas “Sammy" Boone, Jr. and wife, Jeanne of Teachey and William Owen “W.O.” Boone, Sr. and fiance', Deborah Benge of Willard; son-in-law, Robert Charles Pate and wife, Annelle of Smithfield. She was also blessed with 13 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Boone was a student of Rose Hill School and a graduate of James Sprunt Institute of Kenansville. At the age of 12, she gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized by the Reverend J.I. Memory, who was pastor of Corinth Baptist Church at that time. Mildred loved the Lord and she was a dedicated member of Corinth Baptist Church where she attended for more than 45 years. She served Corinth in many capacities to include teaching Sunday School for a number of years. She was previously an employee of Ramsey Feed Company as well as Watson Seafood & Poultry of Rose Hill, NC, where she worked as secretary for more than 20 years before retiring in 1983.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Wallace.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church. The Reverend Matthew Burris and the Reverend James "Jimmy" Flowers officiated. Burial followed in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery, Wallace, NC.
Pallbearers were Blake McLamb, Nicholas Flowers, Cody Taylor, Joshua Balance, Ryan Balance and Clay Hobbs.
Honorary pallbearers were Franklin Hobbs, Danny Boone, Will Boone, Michael Bordeaux, Logan Hobbs, Graham Thomas Boone and Michael "Mikey" Boone.
