Norma Jeanne Melser Aug. 28, 1930 - Jan. 2, 2015 MISHAWAKA - Norma Jeanne Melser passed away after a brief illness at Memorial Hospital. She was born in Mishawaka as the daughter of Vernon and Hazel (Kling) Weaver. She married Jack Slabaugh on May 21, 1949, who preceded her in death on March 8, 2000. On February 8, 2006, she married Dr. Ronald Melser, who survives. She is also survived by her son, Dane (Suzanne) Slabaugh of Granger; and grandchildren: Nicholas (Melissa) of Fishers, IN, John of South Bend, Dr. Gregory Slabaugh of Indianapolis, Amanda (Martin) of Elkhart, Conner and Kyle, both of Granger. Survivors also include her stepchildren, Margaret (Jack) O'Rourke of Wilmington, OH, Bradford (Dr. Nancy) of Fortville, IN, Todd (Joan) of Bremen and Jeffrey (Kathy) of Hudson, WI; along with 4 great-grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren. Norma was a 1948 graduate of Mishawaka High School. She worked for a time at Studebaker Corp. and then worked at Miles Laboratory until retirement as a secretary in the engineering department. She served as organist for the Harris Prairie Church of Christ for many years. Norma belonged to the Retired Miles Employee Association and the Mishawaka Alumni Association. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Mishawaka. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, January 6th, from 4 until 7:00 p.m. in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., and one hour prior to the service at the church. A service celebrating Norma's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 7th, in the St. Peter Lutheran Church, with Pastor Bryan Borger officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Norma's name to St. Peter Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor's choice .
