Plot; Block 44-53, Lot 2405. Dorothea Richardson Bragdon was the daughter of James Richardson,Jr. and Florence Wyman Richardson. She was the beloved sister of James "Jamie" Richardson, and older sister to Florence "Fonnie" Richardson Usher and Elizabeth "Hadley" Richardson Hemingway Mowrer, Ernest Hemingway's first wife. Dorothea, a graduate of Mary Institute, married Dudley Bragdon in 1900. "He was a boy from the neighborhood who went into advertising, and they had two sons. When Dorothea was eight months pregnant, a fire broke out on the lot next door. She tried to put it out, but her long robe caught on fire, and she was badly burned. The day after the accident, her baby girl was delivered stillborn. Eight days later she died. She was cremated, and her ashes were taken to the cemetery and buried in a tiny pine coffin with her baby's body" (Dilberto). Hadley had a special relationship with Dorothea and grieved for her.
Some of this information was gathered from Diliberto, Gioia. (1992). Hadley. NY:Ticknor and Fields. 21, 25, 29.
