Graveside memorial service held by the family for interment of cremains for Curtis Hopkins Jr., 89, of Tyler, will be in Starrville Cemetery on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, at 1 p.m.

"Hoppy" died from a major stroke on Dec. 20, 2014, while visiting family near New Braunfels. Hoppy was born in Bloomburg to Curtis and Clara Hopkins, March 1, 1925.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Thelma Lemons Hopkins; sons, Alan Hopkins, of Dallas, and Mark Hopkins, of California; daughter, Sharon Shaddox and husband Joey, of Winona; granddaughters, Katie Easling and husband Jon, of Winona, and Cassie Leininger and husband Josh, of Spring Branch; and great-grandchildren, Cole, Kayla and Case Easling and Casey and Corey Leininger.

Hoppy was a World War II Navy veteran and served as a radar man on a mine sweeper. He was Mason for more than 50 years. He retired from USPS as a mail carrier, before moving to Tyler.

He loved his family, fishing and the outdoors. Hoppy could never pass by a person who needed help on his way home from work - hitchhikers, flat tires or anyone needy.

He will be greatly missed and remembered.
