Obituary of Lisa Russell
(circa 1967 ~ January 2, 2015)

Lisa H. Russell, age 48 and a resident of Long Beach, Mississippi passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015, in Long Beach, after her 18 year battle with cancer. Originally from New Orleans, LA, Mrs. Russell had been a resident of Long Beach for 43 years.

Lisa received her bachelor’s degree from Southern Mississippi. She continued her education and received her master’s degree from William Carey College.

Mrs. Russell taught drama at Long Beach Middle School for 15 years. She was involved in many social awareness plays as well as the annual spring production for Long Beach Middle School. She was also responsible for producing and presenting the annual Christmas plays to the Long Beach elementary schools.

In order to teach the students that incorrect decision making can lead to detrimental outcomes, some of her most profound works were producing and directing drug awareness programs. Mrs. Russell also served as a member of the board of directors for Gulfport Little Theater for many years.
Lisa was a longtime supporter of the Pink Heart Fund. She attended many events as a speaker and mentor for cancer patients. It was her goal and her honor to raise as much money and awareness as possible to defeat this crippling disease.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Long Beach. She dedicated her time and effort to demonstrating for the youth of the church that life can continue as a cancer patient. She was active in Vacation Bible School, Children’s Church, and served as moderator for special functions such as the Christmas Cantata.
Lisa was elected as Teacher of the Year by the Long Beach City Council. The Biloxi Lighthouse Foundation nominated her for Woman of the Year. She was chosen as the Grand Marshall for the 2014-2015 Long Beach School Homecoming Festivities.
