Martin W. (Shorty) Anderson, age 92 of Trumbull, and retired supervisor for Exxon Mobil Company for 38 years, died Thursday April 24, 2014. He was born on September 9, 1921 in Bridgeport to the late Ernst and Hedvig Anderson. Mr. Anderson attended Roosevelt Grammar , Bassick jr High and graduated from Central High School in 1938. He served in the US Navy during WWII in Sampson, Great Lakes and Norfolk Bases and on board the USS Albemarie during the years of September 1943 thru April 1946. He was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church where he served over 50 years as an Usher. He was a member of the Bridgeport Old timers, Scandinavian club, American Legion Post II, VFW Post 9427, and the Exxon Mobil Annuiltant Club. He was an avid sports fan and played basketball with several local teams; Walnuts, Home Pride, Bronson Hawley Legion, Western Jackson and United Congregation Church and with the Norfolk Naval Base. He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor in 1974, two daughters Dawn Jean in 1957 and Heidi Roberta in 1968, and his son Darryl William in 1997 and also his two brothers Ernest in 2003 and Stanley in 2004. He is survived by his three sons, Dana and his wife Connie, Dale and his wife Mary, and Dwayne, also eight grandchildren Dawn, Justin, Joshua, Rachael, Danielle, Eleanor, Megan and Audrey and one great-grandson Robert, and several nieces and nephews and his loving true companion Ebba "Peggy" Hourigan. Friends are invited to attend his Funeral on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Salem Lutheran Church, 3160 Park Ave, Bridgeport. Burial will be in Mt. Grove Cemetery Bridgeport. Friends may call on Tuesday at the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Ave, Bridgeport from 4 to 7 PM.
