Sonya Bills Watson, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, went to be with her Lord On December 30, 2014, at 9:00 AM. She passed peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family, at the age of 76.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, January 5, 2015 in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette. Interment will be in Fountain Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Luther Burney of First Baptist Church of Lafayette will conduct the services. Melanie Lunn will provide a eulogy. Musical selections will be provided and performed by Ramona Carmichael.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Orville W. Watson of Lafayette; her son, Jim Watson and his wife, Sabrina of Houston, TX; her daughter, Kelly Watson of Lafayette, LA; her three grandchildren, Jesse Watson of Savannah, GA, Morgan Watson and wife Annie of Houston, TX, and Graham Watson of Houston, TX; and two great granddaughters, Cameron and Caleigh Watson of Savannah, GA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pat and Nelda Bills of Snyder, TX; and her sister, Patsy Bills Dubose of Odessa, TX.

Sonya was born on September 18, 1938, in Graham, Texas. Her family later moved to Snyder, Texas, where she met and married the love of her life for over 60 years, Orville. She and Orville had two children, James and Kelly, after which they settled in Lafayette to spend the rest of their lives together.

Sonya was a skilled painter, a talented pianist, an avid pokeno player, and a jokester with a quick wit and a quicker laugh. But those who knew "Noni" know that she could be best described as a true Southern lady; she took pride in her cooking, she took pride in her friends, and most of all, she took pride in her family. She was loving and fiercely loyal to her husband, her children, and all of her grandchildren. Sonya maintained an unshakable faith in God throughout her life, counting her friends and family as her greatest blessings. Hospitality was one of Sonya's greatest joys and she spared no effort in making her home welcoming and comfortable to all.

All those fortunate to have known and loved "Noni" will miss her profoundly.

Pallbearers will be Jim Watson, Morgan Watson, Graham Watson, Billy Dubose, Jr., Jay Low, and Rod Lunn.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Sunday, January 4, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Monday, January 5, from 10:00 AM until time of service.

The family would also like to extend a special thanks to the staff and caregivers of 9 West at Lafayette General Medical Center and to Hospice of Acadiana, and would like to request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, LA. 70503, or to a charity of choice.
