Bill was born in Nevada City, CA.

He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University, San Jose, and in 1940, he graduated from Stanford University School of Law, ranking number one in his class.

Bill began the practice of law in San Francisco with the firm of McCutchen, Doyle, Brown, Trautman & Enerson.

When World War II intervened, he entered the U.S. Navy, and proudly served as intelligence officer to Admiral William "Bull" Halsey. Typical of his calling and his generation, however, he spoke of it only rarely and in the most general terms.

At war's end, Bill came to Fresno and joined the law firm of Kimble & Thomas. Ultimately, that firm became Thomas, Snell, Jamison, Russell & Asperger.

Bill enjoyed a brilliant legal career spanning over half a century. Prominent families and businesses throughout the valley regularly sought and depended upon his advice and counsel. Both Bill and the firm which bore his name represented their clients with the highest level of technical expertise and integrity.

Bill was ultimately honored with election to the American Law Institute, an organization of nationally prominent judges, law professors, and attorneys devoted to the simplification and clarification of the law. He was also a member of the American Judicature Society.

For all of his prodigious legal work, however, Bill generally managed to find the time for a game of golf, a game of dominoes, and a stiff gin and tonic.

Bill and his wife Barbara, were married in Modesto, CA, on July 20, 1941. Throughout their marriage, they were constant companions and the best of friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, and by his siblings Esther and Lloyd.

He is survived by a sister, May Damm of Hollister, CA; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

At Bill's request, no memorial services will be held.
