German General. Baron von Langermann und Erlenkamp. Commander of the XXIV Panzer Korps. Holder of the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves. He entered the Prussian Army in 1908 and seconded to the 5th Dragoon Regiment as a Lieutenant in 1910. He served as an adjutant and company commander in World War I before being promoted to the staff of the X Reserve Corps and then the 22nd Reserved Division where he was promoted to Captain in 1917. He was awarded the Iron Cross First and Second Class. After the war, he was able to remain in the new Reichswehr and was promoted to Major in 1930. He was head of the Army Riding School from 1930 to 1935. As Colonel in 1936, he was promoted to commander of the the 4th Cavalry Regiment. In Mar 1940 he was promoted to Major General and was part of Guderian's Group during the Battle of France as commander of the 29th Motorized Infantry Division. He was awarded the Knight's Cross in August of 1940 for his crossing of the Rhine-Marne Canal and the push to the Swiss border. He took command of the 4th Panzer Divison in September, which he led into battle vs the Soviets in 1941. In January 1942, he was given command of the XXIV Army Corps (later the XXIV Panzer Army) and promoted to Lieutenant General and was awarded the 75th Oak Leaves to his Knights Cross in February. At the award ceremony he was criticized for his silence but replied "If Hitler didn't have the tact to say anything about my son's death, I want nothing to do with him." He was promoted to General of Panzers in July and was killed in action in the front lines at Storoshewoje on the Don, during the Don Offensive. His original burial place was in the churchyard at Shubnoye.
