Rebecca Jane Shuman Burrell
Widow of the late Wm. H. Burrell, who died March 31, 1920, died on Tuesday evening, May 1, at 9:55 at the home of her daughter Mrs. E. V. Clouser, of Newport Route One, with whom she made her home. Mrs. Burrell had been in failing health for some time, but her condition was not considered serious. On Tuesday evening, April 24, she was stricken by a stroke of apoplexy. While there was some improvement in her condition she became worse by the end of the week with another stroke Monday morning which resulted in her death on Tuesday evening, having been sick but one week. Mrs. Burrell was a daughter of the late John K. and Sara Shuman of Saville township, having been born on Apirl 22, 1859 and married to Wm. H. Burrell, also of Saville township, on January 17, 1878. To this union eight children were born. Of these one died in infancy. The surviving are: Sarah, Mrs. John F. Sweger, of Rockford, Ill.; Lida, Mrs. George Loppe, of Yuma, Colo.; Arvilla, widow of the late John S. Linn, of Byron, Ill.; John L., of Millerstown Route 4; Annie, Mrs. Albert Vernon, of Dimmsville, Juniata county; Pearl, Mrs. E. V. Clouser, of Newport R. D. 1, and Rebecca J. of Harrisburg. One brother, Martin L. Shumaker, of Ickesburg, and one sister, Mrs. Levi Bender, of Eshcol, survive as well as sixteen grandchildren. She was a devoted member of the Eshcol Lutheran church since 1880. Services were conducted at the Clouser home by her pastor, Rev. A. H. Beahm, of Ickesburg, at 10:30, Saturday morning, with interment in the Newport cemetery. The text was taken from the 4th verse of the 23rd Psalm. The pallbearers were S. C. Clouser, Earl Walker, Roy Walker, D. N. Hall, Ralph Vance and Geo. Long.
