Martha Shaw Coffey, 98, of Warne passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014 at Clay County Care Center where she had resided for the past two years. She was a member of Pine Log Baptist Church.

Coffey was noted as a long-time Brasstown carver for the John C. Campbell Folk School.

She excelled at carving hens and roosters and crèche figures. Her specialty was camels.

Coffey was born May 6, 1916 in Pelzer, South Carolina to the late Charley and Daisy Brown Shaw.

She was preceded in death by first husband, Marshall Jordan, who died in 1943, and second husband, Conley Coffey, who died in 1977; a son, Vance Coffey, who died in 2010; a brother, George Shaw; and a daughter-in-law, Louise Jordan.

Surviving are two sons, Floyd Jordan of Iron Station, N.C., and Leroy Jordan and wife, Bonnie of Warne; two daughters, Joann Galloway and husband, Frank of Andrews, N.C. and Lois Burkhart and husband, David of Thomasville, N.C. and eight grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at Pine Log Baptist Church with the Revs. Kevin Miller and Chris Rumfelt officiating.

The interment was in the Pine Log Methodist Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, Michael and John Coffey, Tim Galloway, and Chris Burkhart; great- grandson, Ethan Galloway; and nephew, Henry Shaw.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville where the body was until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.
