Carolyn Avery passed away early on the morning of December 30, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. J. Kelley Avery; her parents, Carolyn Louisa Hughes and Carl Hewitt Handley; her brother, Harry Handley; and her sister, Carlene Handley. She is survived by her four children: Sandy Walton, Karen Camp Martin Moore, Carl Camp (Parker), Carolyn Hannon (John); her five grandchildren: Nathan Martin, Taylor Martin (Heather), Austin Martin (Ashley), Madison Moore, and Avery Hannon; and her six great-grandchildren: Austin Martin, Ashtin Martin, Ethan Martin, Harley Martin, Bentley Martin, and Riley Martin.Carolyn was born on April 1, 1936 in Raleigh, NC. She attended Hillsboro High School, Agnes Scott College, and Trevecca Nazarene University.Carolyn owned her own business for many years, which served as an auditing, litigation support, and consulting service for physician practices. Carolyn's true loves, however, were her family and church. She served both her family and God with her whole being. Her service to the church included a commitment to the Daughters of the King and the Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of Nashville. For her family, she has been the cornerstone of support for several generations. She will be missed by everyone who knew her, but hopefully we can all learn from her compassion and charity.Services will be held at St. David's Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2015.
