Lt. Col. George R. Baldwin (US Army, Ret.)

Lt. Col. George Rockefeller Baldwin (US Army, Ret.), 81, of Frederick County, Virginia, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at his home.

Mr. Baldwin was born in 1933, in Wilmington, Delaware, the son of the late George D. and Sue R. Baldwin. He was a graduate of Florida Southern College receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and of Georgia Southern University where he received an MBA. Mr. Baldwin was a retired veteran having served in the United States Army achieving the rank of Lt. Col. He served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star. He retired to Winchester, Virginia, after 23 years of military service. Mr. Baldwin was later employed as a Systems Engineer in Washington, D.C. then becoming an Adjunct Professor in York, Pennsylvania.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winchester. Mr. Baldwin was a member of the Retired Military Police Officers Association, a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity; Associate Member of the Cedar Key Methodist Church in Florida and a Docent for Glen Burnie House and Museum in Winchester.

He married Patricia J. Buck on September 12, 1953, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Surviving with his wife of 61 years, is his daughter, Cheryl B. Turpin of Virginia Beach, Virginia; sons, George D. Baldwin of Carrabelle, Florida, Nelson M. Baldwin of Winchester, Virginia; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

One son, Thomas R. Baldwin, preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dr. Dan McCoig officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, at a later date.

A reception will follow the service at Westminster Canterbury, 300 Westminster Canterbury Drive, Winchester, Virginia, 22603.
