Florence E. (Miller) Hoover, 93, formerly of Spring Grove, passed away with her family by her side on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at The Brethren Home in New Oxford. She was the loving wife of the late Ray A. Hoover who died in 2003.
Florence was born in York County on December 6, 1921, and was the daughter of the late Grace (Miller) and John Miller.
She was a lifetime member of Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed singing, puzzles, playing board games, making dolls and crafts and will always be remembered for being an excellent cook. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and cherished the time she spent with her family.
She is survived by her sons, Gerald E. Hoover and wife Brenda of Spring Grove, and Stephen R. Hoover and wife Fran of New Oxford; her daughters, Susan M. Tharp of Hanover, and Evonne D. Fishel and husband Keith of Jefferson; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Naomi Sterner and Lucy Altland; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Janet A. Hindle; her sons-in-law, William Hindle and Skip Tharp; her brother, John Emmert Miller; and her sister, Helen Shaffer.
A funeral service in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren, 9002 Orchard Road, Spring Grove, with Elder Steve Fodor officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Pleasant Hill Cemetery following the service. Viewings will be held on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, and on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Bible Helps, P.O. Box 391, Hanover, PA 17331; or the Good Samaritan Fund at the Brethren Home Community, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA 17350.
