TORRINGTON — Rita E. McCabe of Torrington, formerly of Falmouth, Mass., and a longtime resident of Glastonbury, Conn., passed away peacefully, with family members by her side on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014.

Rita was born and raised in South Boston, Mass. She and her beloved husband Edward of 59 years, who predeceased her in 2009, initially moved to East Hartford, Conn., and ultimately to Glastonbury, Conn., where they resided for 40 years and raised their three children.

Rita will always be remembered as being a lovely, thoughtful, kind and very considerate lady. Not only was she a devoted mother but also a doting mother over the years to many golden retrievers. Although a quiet person, she could always make you laugh with her quick-witted comments. She loved playing golf with her friends at the Glastonbury Hill Country Club where she and Ed were members for many years.

Rita was actively involved in the Glastonbury Children Family Services and volunteered at the Children Services Thrift Shop. She worked for many years as Dr. David F. Mintell's office assistant prior to retiring with her husband Ed to Falmouth, Mass.

She is survived by her three children, Marcia Cianciolo and her husband Vincent of Harwinton, Conn., Thomas McCabe of Portland, Conn., and Michael McCabe of New York, N.Y.; and beloved granddaughters and families, Melissa Cianciolo, Molly and her husband Phillip Paghense, and Kerry McCabe; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Olivia Paghense. Rita leaves her loving sister, Mary Keeley of Roxbury, Mass.; sisters-in-law, Katherine Dunn of South Yarmouth, Mass., Margaret O'Brien of Ashland, Mass., and Sheila McCabe of Canton, Mass., and a treasured family of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the wonderful care provided to her by her caregivers and staff at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at 11 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, 55 Hopewell Road, South Glastonbury, Conn. Burial will follow in St Augustine Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Rita's name may be made to the Little Guild of St. Francis, P.O. Box 59, West Cornwall, CT 06796. Condolences
