Vernon H. Ferguson Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior December 29, 2014 in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2015 at the Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Peercy officiating, interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Ft. Sill National Cemetery, and arrangements are under the direction of Carter-Smart Funeral Home.
Vernon was born January 28, 1938 to Vernon H. Sr. and Martha (Slocum) Ferguson in St. Louis, Missouri. Vernon joined the U.S. Army in 1955, he married Clara L. Robins in 1957.Vernon served his country for 20 years while raising his family. He served in Okinawa, Korea, two tour in Germany and Vietnam. He felt his greatest achievement was raising his four children, who he loved beyond measure.
He is survived by his wife; Clara of the home, son; Mark Ferguson & his wife Angela of Angleton, Texas, daughters; Leslie McGuire & husband Danny of Duncan, Verna Leaverton of Angleton, Texas and Robin Daniels. Grandchildren; Sheila, Sarah, Matt Ferguson, Amber Trumbo, Rhyan Wright, Steven & Thomas Roberts. Brothers; Mike Ferguson of Shady Point, Oklahoma and Joe Ferguson of Sullivan, Missouri and eight great grandchildren.
Vernon was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father; Vernon Ferguson Sr. his mother; Martha Slocum Ferguson, sister; Leslie Ferguson, and brother; Charles Ferguson.
Pallbearers will be Mark Ferguson, Sara Ferguson, Steven Roberts, Jayson Trumbo, Danny McGuire and Clayton Wright. Honorary Pallbearer will be Robert McMurray.
