DONNA MAY STEELE, age 82 years of North Adams, formerly of the Jackson and Hillsdale area, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. She was born on June 23, 1932, in Raisin Township, the daughter of James E. and Marjoria M. (Doriell) Brooks. Donna married George Steele on March 8, 1950, in Adrian. He preceded her in death on September 4, 1982. She was a loving mother with a kind and gentle soul who loved animals, painting and gardening. She is survived by five daughters, Susan (Burt) Nelson of Hanover, Sheila Wood of Jackson, Sandra Skrzynski of North Adams, Shirley Schmitz-Moore of Sturgis and Sharlet Hubbard of Jackson, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, son-in-law, Harvey Higgins of Jackson, four brothers and sisters, Tom Brooks, Ivan (Velma) Brooks, Ruth Westgate and Ann Brooks-Rice and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Higgins, parents and three brothers and sisters, Mary Lou Stump, Jim Brooks and Ernestene Graybill. Funeral Services for Donna will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at the Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral home in Onsted with Pastor Rich Zawadzki officiating. Burial will follow at Macon Cemetery in Macon, Michigan.
