Alvin West Mercer. 90. of Mount Savage, died Monday. May 19. 2014. at his daughter’s residence in Corriganville (where he has been recently residing).
Born on June 7, 1923 in Bowling Green. Ohio. He was the son Owen Mercer and Helen West Mercer.
He was also preceded in death by his brother. Ross Mercer and his twin brother. Melvin Mercer.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years. Cora Jane (Sturtz) Mercer; two children. Diane Louise (Mercer) Bolt and husband. Michael of Corriganville and David Lee Mercer and wife. Jeralyn of Youngstown. Ohio; three grandchildren. Brian Bolt of Pittsburgh. Pa.. Amy (Bolt) Robertson and husband. John of Cumberland, and Alvin David Mercer and fiance. Michelle Benoit of Youngstown; four great-grandchildren. Payton. Kyra. Ella Bee and Carleigh. He is also survived by two stepchildren. Robert E. Moore and wife. Linda. Chesnee. S.C. and Jane (Moore) Cooke and husband. Jimmy. Leland. N.C.; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a niece. Kay (Mercer) Robbins and a nephew. Robert Mercer, both of Jacksonville. Fla. He is also survived by extended family members including many nieces and nephews through marriage.
He was a graduate of Weston High School. Weston. Ohio. He served in the U.S.Army during World War II in Europe. He retired from Dallas & Mavis Trucking Company of Toledo. Ohio and a member of the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed gardening. Pirates baseball and spending time with family.
