Wallace E. Cassanova, age 86 years, of Ocean Springs, entered the Heavenly Kingdom on Monday, December 29, 2014.

Wallace was a devout Catholic and lived a life of service to our Lord, with deep love for his family and a generous spirit of caring for the poor and less fortunate of the community. He served with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 213, was an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and worked tirelessly with the 12 Baskets Food Pantry for many years.

Mr. Cassanova graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1946 and attended Hinds County Junior College. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Cassanova was stationed in Italy, where he was blessed to participate in an audience with Pope Pius XII. His career included work as an insurance salesman, manager of a bowling alley, refrigeration mechanic with Coca-Cola and Barq's and he was a well-respected employee at the Chevron refinery in Pascagoula, from which he retired in 1985. Hobbies included traveling, enjoying all varieties of music, and fishing when he had the chance!

Mr. Cassanova was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Frances Cassanova, his brother F.A. Cassanova Jr., and his sister Audrey Moran.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Marilyn Johnson Cassanova, his sister Helen Bieda, his children Lynda Barker, Laura (Joe) Telarico, David (Linda) Cassanova, and Loretta Bamford, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Saturday, January 3, from 10 am ~ 11am, with an 11 am Mass of Christian Burial, all at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Ocean Springs Mississippi. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Park. After the burial a reception will be held in the parish hall at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church.

The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Wallace Eugene Cassanova (1928-2014) was a native of Biloxi and the son of Frank Cassanova (1895-1976) and Frances Velcich (1898-1989). In November 1951, he married Marilyn Johnson (b. 1930), the daughter of Ralph Johnson who hailed from Chicago.(The Daily Herald, November 20, 1951, p. 5)

Wallace and Marilyn had met the previous year in Jackson, Mississippi where both were employed with Coca Cola. The Cassanovas had four children: Linda C. Barker (b. 1952), Laura Louise C. Telarico (b. 1953), David Cassanova (b. 1954), and Loretta C. Bamford (b. 1956).

Mr. Cassanova worked for Barqs Root Beer in Biloxi as a vending machine mechanic before joining Chevron at Pascagoula about 1974. At the oil refinery, he worked as an operator in the blending and shipping division.
