PRESCOTT - Mrs. Beulah Ross Mathis, 92, of Prescott, Ark., died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003. She was born July 14, 1911, in Pike County, Ark., to the late Abner H. and Rosetta Frasher. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Prescott, Ark.
Following the death of her husband of 27 years, Gilbert Eugene Ross, she returned to school and earned a nursing degree and worked as a nurse at the Nevada County Hospital in Prescott, Ark., for nearly 20 years. After retirement, she remarried Early Mathis and they lived together for nearly eight years until his death in 1992.
She is preceded in death by a sister, Jewel Brasher Randell, and a brother, M. Harper Frasher. She is survived by one son, Dr. Gene Ross and wife Frances of Emmet, Ark.; one grandson, U.S. Congressman Mike Ross and wife Holly of Prescott, Ark.; and two greatgrandchildren, Sydney and Alex Ross of Prescott, Ark.; three nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott, Ark., with Rev. Jerry Westmoreland and Rev. Jim Lenderman officiating. Burial will follow at the city cemetery in Murfreesboro, Ark.
