Born on July 21, 1912, in Butte, Di attended school in Philipsburg and graduated from Granite High in 1930. Business college took Di to Washington State where she met her husband, G.S. "Lindy" Rice. After graduation from college, Di and Lindy were drawn back to Philipsburg where they remained, raising their family and making memories.
Di was preceded in death by her parents, all seven of her siblings, an infant son, Lindy Rae, her husband, Lindy, and sons-in-law, Jack Turney and Pat Bennett. She was also preceded by two grandsons, Dee Schroeder and Bobby Turney, a granddaughter, Julie Turney Tash, and a great-grandson, Bradley Engle.
Survivors include her daughters, Yuvanne Turney and Diane Bennett; grandchildren, Dareen (Jim) Byler, Danielle (Dale) Larsen, Daralee (David) Schroeder-King, Doris (Mark) Metesh, Cheri Burke, Vicki (Matt) Woods, and Jackie (Mark) Peterson. Baba’s (gramma) great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren are far too numerous to mention, but that legacy is over 60 and still counting. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Baba Di’s life will be held sometime the summer of 2015 at the Philipsburg Community Church where Di was a member for over a half a century.
