G. William “Bill” Phillips, 77, of 206 Stevens Street, Mount Vernon, died March 5, 2000, at The Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus. He was born March 10, 1922, in Pacific Grove, Calif., and had been a resident of Mount Vernon for 53 years. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had been employed at Cooper-Bessemer Co. in Mount Vernon for 23 years and retired from American Davidson after 10 years of employment. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Moose Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Mount Vernon.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Kathryn “Kay” (Bell) Phillips; 2 sons, Mark William (Marsha) Phillips of Mount Vernon and Matt Steven (Debbie) Phillips of Dewey, Ariz.; 2 daughters, Linda Kay (Jim) Jonsson of Marion and Stacy L. (Jack) Coons of Mount Vernon; 8 grandchildren; a great granddaughter; his mother, Charlotte (Kidd) Phillips of California; and his sister, Dorothy “Blitz” Harvey of Monterio, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his father, George William Phillips.

Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral in Mount Vernon. Graveside service will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Mound View Cemetery
