Jerry Thomas Stratton, 93, of Bandera, passed away on Oct. 4, 2014, at his residence. He left this world surrounded by his family. Jerry was born on Jan. 25, 1921 to Albert and Helen Jureczki in Bandera. He married Wanda Mae Crump in 1952, in Roswell, N.M.
Jerry went to school in Bandera. He was a veteran of the Army and was stationed in Germany and Great Britain, during WWII. He owned his own drywall company and worked in several different states.
Jerry was one of the grandfathers of our Catholic Church, whose family helped build the church. He also built his home at the age of 27, for his parents, so they could have running water and electricity. His homeplace was his life’s dream.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Helen Jureczki; his brothers Leo, Loyd and Richard; his sister Beatrice Louskowski. He also lost his son Harvey Stratton; and son-in-law Russell Holby.
Jerry is survived by his wife Wanda Stratton; his children Larry, Cathy, Steve and Brenda; his sister, Mildred (Jureczki) Collier, Frankie Jurezski; his grandchildren Derek, Brandon, Ashley, Christine, Kyle, Felecia, Rachael and Heath; as well as eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Jerry loved his family very much. He was his family’s rock. He helped so many and he did it out of love. He was one man who made a difference in his family, and was proud of his heritage and his legacy. He will be remembered for his for intelligence, hard work, sharp wit and loving heart.
He will be missed by all. We miss you PaPa.
A Memorial mass was held at Oct. 25, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Followed by burial at the New Catholic Cemetery. A reception followed the service at the First Methodist Church hall on 11th Street.
