GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Ralph L. Wharton Sr., 69, of 8955 Kuhn Road, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born Feb. 24, 1932, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Ralph Lee and Alma J. Barnes Wharton.
He was last employed as a bus driver by the Franklin County Transportation Authority. He also was employed by Grove Worldwide Inc. in Shady Grove, Pa.; and Frick Co. in Waynesboro, Pa. Earlier, he worked in construction.
He was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ of Upton, Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Zeger Wharton, whom he married Dec. 6, 1958; three daughters, Debra Ann Wharton Pearce of Bellingham, Wash., Donna E. Wharton of Fort Loudon, Pa. and Tracey J. Wharton of Waynesboro; a son, Ralph L. Wharton Jr. of Upton; a brother, Paul R. Wharton of Flintstone, Md.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ of Upton, 5441 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle. The Rev. Ed J. Higginbottom will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, Pa.
Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg; and Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the church.
