She was born May 28, 1918 in Chicago, the daughter of Henry N. Anderson and Anna (Barkstrom) Anderson. She married Dr. Paul W. Sunderland on Oct. 3, 1941 in Chicago and he survives.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda V. Sunderland; grandson, Vinnie Gee (son of her daughter Karen) and her parents. Two brothers and one sister also preceded her in death: Aden Anderson, a Navy pilot who was killed in during World War II; Nathaniel Anderson and Eleanor (Harold) Smith.

Mrs. Sunderland received her education in the Chicago area. She graduated in 1936 from Horace Mann High School and became a registered nurse upon receiving her degree in 1940 from Henrotin School of Nursing. After graduation, she served as a pediatric nurse at Children's Hospital of the Cook County Group until she followed her physician husband to his first duty assignment at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

She remained in Annapolis until her husband returned in December 1945 from overseas duty with the U.S. Navy during and at the end of World War II. His next duty assignment took the couple to Great Lakes Naval Station near Chicago. In June 1947, she and her husband moved to Gibson City for him to begin what would become a 47-year family medical practice. They remained lifelong residents of the area.
