Funeral Mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Walters, OK, Saturday, January 3 at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Peter Jandaczek officiating with interment in the Walters Cemetery. A Rosary Service will be held at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel in Walters on Friday evening, January 2 at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 NE 123th, Oklahoma City, OK 73104 and designate for Kidney research.



Paul James Brown was born to John Thomas and Artie Mae (Durbin) Brown on September 10, 1927 near Beaver Creek, east of Walters, OK and departed this life at his home northeast of Walters, OK on December 29, 2014 at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 19 days.

Paul grew up in the Walters area attending Union Valley School through the 11th grade. As a young man he worked at a parts store for a couple of years and then began going on harvest with his uncle. He married Vilma C. Duggan on December 16, 1949 at Clovis, NM and to the union 8 children were born. The couple began raising their family at Lawton before moving to Hereford, TX for a year and a half. They eventually settled in Walters, and soon moved to their new home northeast of town.

Paul was an auto mechanic working 13 years for Green-Phillips Chevrolet, 16 years at Charlie Wade Oldsmobile, 3 years at Cecil Lawson, 11 years at Felton Dean and retiring in 1990. He was also engaged in farming for many years.

Paul was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Walters. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and tinkering with cars and farm equipment. He also enjoyed being ornery.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Vilma; an infant daughter, Mary Laraine; a granddaughter, Leah Brown; 3 brothers, Clyde Brown, Lawrence Haley and Jerome T. Brown; and a sister, Dorothy.

Survivors include 7 children and spouses, Paula Davis of Melissa, TX, Cecilia and John Cunningham of Lawton, Cindy Kay and Russell Hoodenpyle of Duncan, OK, Gail and Walter Soper of Walters, Clark and Lynn Brown of Lawton, Philip Brown of Rogers, AR, William and Becky Brown of Grand Prairie, TX; 2 brothers and a sister, Carl Brown of Lawton, Louie Brown of Oroville, CA and Helen Peck of Duncan, OK; 21 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; other relatives and many friends.
