Jeannette S. Evans, 91, longtime resident of Valdosta departed this life on Sunday, December 28, 2014. She was born the second of eight children to the late Walter Mallie and Ruby King Snellgrove in Albany, Georgia on March 12, 1923. She was saved and baptized at an early age at First Baptist Church, Moultrie, Georgia and had many fond memories of the youth activities she was a part of there. She graduated from Sparks Academy in 1940 and the following year began working at Gulf Life Home Office in Jacksonville, Florida. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Willie Ray Evans who was serving in the Army in Pensacola, Florida. They were married on December 10, 1941 and she moved to Pensacola to live with his family while he served in the Pacific Theatre from which he returned in March 1945. She remained a loyal military wife until his retirement in 1967 when they moved to Valdosta to be near her family. She had been a faithful member of Lee Street Baptist Church/Crossroads Baptist Church and was currently a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons and daughters in law, Michael and Alicia Evans of Valdosta, Gary Lee and Donna Evans of Lake Park; four grandchildren, Lynette Evans, Tracy (Joe) Bracewell, Brent (Marie) Evans, Kevin Joyce; great grandchildren, Emmalee Bracewell, Gracie Evans, John Griffin, Aden Evans and Brantley Evans, sisters and brother in law, Ann and Walton Lineberger, Elizabeth Davis all of Valdosta, three brothers and sisters in law, Walter and Jo Ann Snellgrove of Hahira, Charlie and Alice Snellgrove of Bossier City, LA, Joe and Juanita Snellgrove of Newnan, GA, her in laws, Jim and Alta Brown of Pensacola, FL, Wendell and Betty Evans of Grovetown, GA, Gay Fitzgerald of Jamestown, TN, Nan Fletcher of Cookville, TN, Victoria Lee of Carlsbad, CA, Barbara Holt and Ralph Evans both of Cookville, TN. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elmyruth Coggins and Amy Bowers.
Funeral services will be held at Noon, Tuesday, December 30, 2014 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 11am until service time at the funeral home.
