Eugene S. Porambo, 96, of 135 E. Ludlow St., Summit Hill, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 27, in the Weatherwood Nursing Home in Weatherly. He was the husband of the late Helen A. (Novitsky) Porambo, who passed away on Jan. 9, 2014.
He worked for Dana Parish Steel, Reading, before retiring, and previously was employed at the former No. 9 Mines, Lansford.
Born in Lansford, he was a son of the late Stanley and Anna (Szumigraj) Poremba.
A 1936 graduate of the former Lansford High School, he was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the African-European Theatre.
Porambo was a member of the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Summit Hill, and a current member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill. He also belonged to the Summit Hill American Legion Post and the D.A.V.
Surviving are two sons, Robert, and his wife, Nancy, of Bethlehem, and Richard, at home; a daughter Patricia, wife of James McGill of Kelayres; four grandchildren, James McGill, Lauren McGill, Robert Porambo and Jessica Porambo; a great-grandson, Andrew Riotto; a brother Edward, and his wife, Helen, of Lansford; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother Stanley and a sister, Wanda Moskowicz.
Service: Mass of Christian Burial noon Friday, Jan. 2, St. Joseph Catholic Church, 462 W. Ludlow St., Summit Hill. Military interment, SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Summit Hill.
