Edward Leroy Doud was born to Ralph and Grace Doud on October 5, 1927 in Rapid City, South Dakota.
He attended grade school in Midland. He later met Dorothy Schilling and they were married on October 9, 1963,they had three girls and one boy.
Edward and his family lived in Midland and Draper before moving to Fort Pierre were he went to work for Downs Implement and then later the South Dakota Department of Transportation.
He officially retired in 1996 but stayed on an additional 5 years as a seasonal employee. After retirement Ed could usually be found in his garage working on a project or fixing bikes for the neighborhood kids.
He had many talents and could fix anything and if he didn't have the tool he needed he would make one that would work.
Ed joined the navy in 1944 and served his country until 1946.
Ed received his pilot’s license in 1947 for small single engine planes and loved to fly. He enjoyed telling the stories of when he was able to fly. He enjoyed watching videos about aircraft as he never lost his love for flying. He also liked watching videos about trains and seeing the world though them.
Ed had a love for children and always carried jellybeans in his pocket for them. He also enjoyed waltz and polka music although he never did like to dance.
Edward is survived by his wife one daughters, seven grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren, a brother and three and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Grace, son Leroy, brother Ralph, sisters Koral and Irene and son-in-law Dan.
Edward Doud, 87, of Pierre passed away December 24, 2014 at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital there will be a visitation from 5:00-7:00pm, Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre followed by a prayer Service at 7:00pm. Funeral Service will be at 10:00am, Monday, December 29, 2014 at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Pierre with Interment at Scotty Philip Cemetery in Ft. Pierre.
