Mary Cosgriff (her last name was found in her son Frank's marriage record) emigrated from Ireland to the United States in 1851 (per a note from her son, landing in Boston) or 1852 (per the 1900 census). She married Michael Leonard in Haverhill, Essex County, Massachusetts in 1855. He worked for the railroad in New Hampshire and then in Iowa. Their children were: Mary Ellen Leonard (b. 1856 in Haverhill, Grafton County, New Hampshire), Elizabeth "Lillian" Leonard (b. 1857 in Haverhill, Grafton County, New Hampshire), Susan Leonard (b. 1864 in Hew Hampshire), and Patrick Frank Leonard (b. 1871 in Cedar County, Iowa). Michael and Mary bought a farm 2 1/2 miles west of Dana, Greene County, Iowa before 1890 and lived there until their deaths in 1900 and 1901 respectively.
