Ruth Anna Gray Boone of Merom passed away Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014, at 10:30 p.m. at Miller's Merry Manor, in Sullivan. She was born Oct. 19, 1923, west of Graysville, to William "Bill" Gray and Cleo Mae Daniels Gray.
Ruth attended Bloomington School of Nursing in Bloomington, and graduated as a registered nurse in 1945. During her career as a registered nurse, Ruth worked as a private duty nurse at Mary Sherman Hospital and Miller's Merry Manor, where she was the assistant director of nursing and in-service director. She retired from nursing in 1989. but her love of it never left her. Ruth was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star; American Legion Women's Auxiliary Post 139 and also served on the Merom town board.
She married Nelson D. Boone on Feb. 26, 1948. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson, who died March 1, 1995; her parents; brothers, Elmer Gray, George Gray, Robert Gray, Harvey Gray, Merle Gray and Jerry Gray; sisters, Pauline Nicholson and Mary Criss; a very special niece and her son Billie Cox Burns, and Steven Burns.Ruth Anna Gray Boone of Merom passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at 10:30 p.m. at Miller’s Merry Manor in Sullivan.

She was born October 19, 1923 west of Graysville, IN to William “Bill” Gray and Cleo Mae Daniels Gray.

Ruth attended Bloomington School of Nursing in Bloomington, IN and graduated as a registered nurse in 1945. During her career as a registered nurse, Ruth worked as a private duty nurse, Mary Sherman Hospital and Miller’s Merry Manor where she was the Assistant Director of Nursing and In-Service Director. She retired from Nursing in 1989, but her love of it never left her. Ruth was a member of Merom Methodist Church, past member of the Eastern Stars; American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Post 139 and also served on Merom town board.

She married Nelson D. Boone on February 26, 1948. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson who died on March 1, 1995, her parents, brothers, Elmer Gray, George Gray, Robert Gray, Harvey Gray, Merle Gray, Jerry Gray, sisters, Pauline Nicholson, Mary Criss, a very special niece and her son, Billie Cox Burns, and Steven Burns. Survivors include her children, Calvin Boone and fiancée Carla Johnson, Merom, Paula (Cary) Sparks, Terre Haute, Myra (Kenny) Blankenbeker, Annapolis, IL, and Scott (Bonnie) Boone, Sullivan. Thirteen grandchildren, Rob Boone, Kelley Thompson (Nick Yoder), Stacey Boone (Jamie Hintz), Gabe (Dana) Boone, Jeremy (Amy) Sparks, Josh (Erin) Sparks, Amy (Justin) Mohr, Jeremiah (Jeanna) Walters, Ashley (Michael) Shelton, Sarah Blankenbeker, Jennifer (Chris) Nickele, Stephanie (Todd) Collins, and Brittany Boone (Jacob Wamsley). Nineteen great grandchildren, Jonas Thompson, Lily Thompson, Zoe Thompson, Logan Cox, Blake Boone, Dylan Boone, Cole Boone, Kyler Hudson, Kinley Sparks, Klara Sparks, Kambry Sparks, Nate Sparks, Brody Sparks, Olivia Schoffstall, Jace Mohr, Macey Mohr, Lucas Collins, Hayden Shelton, Hunter Shelton, a brother David (Carol) Gray, Ft. Wayne, IN and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1:00 on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Holmes Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jim Beery and Eric Blevens officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will follow at Merom Cemetery.
