Daniel Elmer Scott Sr. of North Garden, Va. departed this life, quietly at home with his family, on Friday, December 19, 2014.

Daniel was born March 16, 1923, the eighth child of the late Dester and Emma Hopkins Scott. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Annie Miller Scott; one daughter, Ms. Mary Jane Williams; brothers, Boyd, Alfred, Curtis, William, Phillip, and Kermit; and sisters, Mrs. Sarah Scott and Mrs. Mary Thompson.

Daniel joined Wake Forest Baptist Church at an early age. He was educated in the Albemarle County public school system. As a teenager he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), serving for 2 years before volunteering to serve in the United States Navy for 4½years. He served aboard the USS Basilan, a radar repair ship. After coming home from serving his country he soon found employment at the University of Virginia Medical Center kitchen. He worked there for 40 years before retiring with a work-related injury. Daniel graduated from the National Radio Institute in June of 1961, after which he started a television repair business in his basement.

After retirement, he became more involved in Wake Forest Baptist Church filling several posts before health problems forced him to stop driving.

Mr. Scott leaves to mourn his loss, his wife of 53 years, the Reverend Delores L. Scott; five daughters, Mrs. Bertha H. Minor, Ms. Annie Lauretta Smith, and Ms. Theresa Odom of Charlottesville, Virginia, Ms. Sheila Burton of Waynesboro, Virginia, and Ms. Deborah Tyler of Charlottesville, Virginia; one son, Daniel E. Scott Jr. and Teresa Morris of Crozet, Virginia; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Mrs. Gracie Morris of the Slate Hill Community; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Burton of Charlottesville, Virginia; three nieces he loved as daughters, Mrs. Mary F. White of Charlottesville, Virginia, Mrs. Joyce Tyler of Columbia, Virginia, and Ms. Delores A. Fields of North Garden, Virginia; a beloved nephew and caregiver, Mr. John Fields Jr. of North Garden, Virginia; as well as many other nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank all of his nurses and doctors in the departments of Urology, Interventional Radiation, Cardiology and Rheumatology and the nurses from Continuum Home Health Care.

Funeral services will be held at Zion Baptist Church in North Garden, Virginia on Saturday, December 27, 2014, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Sherman A. Collins of Wake Forest Baptist Church, delivering the eulogy and Pastor Halliard Brown Jr. of Zion Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
