Mrs. Ruth Barton, age 89, of Harriman passed on to Heaven Saturday December 27, 2014. Ruth had been a resident of Victorian Square Assisted Living Facility in Rockwood since April 2013.

She married her husband, Glenn Howard Barton, after he returned from World War II and was preceded in death by him in 2004. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Emma Jenkins in 1984.

Ruth was a faithful member of the Harriman Baptist Tabernacle for more than 50 years. She loved her church family and her Pastor Dr. James F. Jones, Jr. and his wife Sandra, as well as the previous Pastor, Rev. Edward Parton and his wife Grace.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Ronald and Carol Barton of South Hadley, MA and Steve and Virginia Barton of Oakdale.

Four grandchildren: Jonathan Barton and Jennifer Murphy and husband Jamie of South Hadley, Christopher Barton and wife Brooke of Westel and Dr. Darren Barton and wife Nichole of Kingsport.

Eight grandchildren: Justen Barton, Samantha and Brady Murphy of South Hadley, Alexis and Emorie Ruth Barton of Westel, Sophia, Emerson Glenn and Brooks Steven Barton of Kingsport.

And two very special and caring cousins who meant much to her: Gloria and husband Harlan Thomas, Rosie and husband JC Nelson.

She and Papaw Barton were very special to grandsons Chris and Darren, giving unselfishly of their love and time, providing spiritual guidance and were always caring and kind from the time of Chris and Darren’s birth until Mamaw and Papaw’s passing from this life.

Graveside services were held Monday December 29, 2014 at 2:00 PM in Roane Memorial Gardens with Dr. James F. Jones, Jr. officiating.
