Although the gravestone says 16 Jul 1816, the following account of his death appears in the Hampstead church records: "On the 17th day of July 1816, about 10 o'clock a.m., Mr. Kimball put an end to his life in his barn, with the long reins of his chaise, without being supposed of such a design, only as he seemed to be inclined to Universalism and infidelity."
