Philip Jackson was the fourth child and third son of James Early Jackson and his wife, Sarah Candace Stokes.

Dooly County Marriages (Colored) Book F (1899-1908), page 362, shows a marriage for a Philip Jackson and Alice Metters. John Philip Jackson married Alice Meadows about 1903 or 1904. This Dooly County marriage record may well be the record for Philip and Alice, but, if so, it has been recorded incorrectly.

John Philip Jackson and his wife, Alice Meadows, had one child, a daughter, Annie C. Jackson, born in 1906, shortly before Philip's death. Subsequently, Philip's widow, Alice, married his brother, William Fletcher Jackson.
