1834 Phebe gave birth to Elbert. He was 1st white Baby Born in Kane Co Illinois. In October of 1834 the Indians stole baby Elbert and took him back to their camp. As soon as Phebe noticed the baby missing, she rushed over to the Indian Camp alone and found a squaw lovingly caring for her baby. The squaw didn't want to give the baby up but when Phebe promised to bake her some bread the squaw gave back the baby.

Also Elbert had a sister named Phebe, she
is buried next to their parnets Wm & Phebe Welch.
