Suggested edit: I am 99% certain you and others have the wrong Dannett Abney as Sarah's father. Firstly, only Dannett Abney Jr. mentioned a daughter named Sarah in his will. Secondly only Dannett Abney Jr. stayed in Virginia. George's son, Dannett m. Cassandra were in Edgefield Co., South Carolina and far away from the Witt Family in Amherst Co., VA. There is absolutely no reason to believe in a connection of the SC Abney's and the VA Witt's when we already have a Dannett Abney (Jr.) who lived in VA. The alleged Sherwin marriage (per Hensell) has no documentation whatsoever. In Dannett Jr.'s will (1757), Sarah was single and probably only a couple of years old. Since Mary MEREDITH was very much younger than Dannett Jr., she would only have been about 30 years old or so when Sarah was born. In the 1786 deed of Wm Witt to Littleberry Witt, the witnesses were Dannett Abney Witt and (Pvt.) William Abney. William was Sarah's 1st cousin, once removed. This was NOT the Capt. William Abney (son of George) who was far away in SC. I see this error in the LDS files also. I have every reason to believe David Witt's wife, Sarah Abney was the Sarah Abney of Dannett Abney Jr.'s will. Hence, their son's name: Dannett Abney Witt. Please correct or discuss this with me. Thanks! RR

Suggested edit:
Sarah did not die until March of 1846. She dispersed most of her husband's estate in 1818, which may be the reason she is often thought to have died then. However, a chancery case in Nelson County, Virginia, indicates she lived to be at least 100 years old, and included in the evidence was a receipt for the making of her coffin on March 4, 1846. (Exact date of her death was not given, but she appears to have lived a little past the making of the coffin, as groceries were still purchased on her account. She must have been ill, and they were getting ready for her imminent death.) She appears on several census records after 1810, living next to her son, Burgess, who cared for her during those years. Thank you for making this correction.
