Mattie Evelyn Evans, 75, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 in Jacksonville. A Jacksonville native, she was born here on August 9, 1939 to Daniel Tennison and Ola Mae Tanner Tennison.
Mrs. Evans was a retired teacher and member of Southpoint Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday December 31, 2014 in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S. with Dr. Terry N. Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jimmie & Bob Tennison; a grandson, Joseph Ray and a great granddaughter Raylyn. She is survived by her husband, Bobby Ray Evans; her daughter, Patricia Flynn (husband,Joseph); her granddaughter, Lyn Mohanna; 3 great grandchildren Alexis, Patrick & Jessica; 2 great great grandsons Banks & Kason; 2 sisters Betty Beck (husband, Leon) & Angela Wimberly (husband, Buddy) and by many extended family members, friends & church family.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Mattie Evans' name to Southpoint Baptist Church, 3335 Tiger Hole Rd., Jacksonville, FL.
