Roy E. Watts of Kemper Co., MS passed away December 26 at age 96. He is survived by his daughter Gayle of Birmingham, AL and preceded in death by his wife Bennie of 68 years, infant daughter Eugenia, parents Eugene and Huberta Watts, sister Urlyne Worthen, and brothers Paul and Cecil Watts.

Roy received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from MS State University and was drafted into the Army in 1941. He served as a Second Lieutenant and as an Instructor in the Signal Corps Officers School. He was deployed to the South Pacific during WWII, serving in Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines as an Army Captain, earning three bronze stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

After the war Roy and his wife moved to Hattiesburg where he was employed as a mechanical engineer with Gulf States. He later moved to Huntsville, AL, where he resided with his family for 30 years. Roy worked for the Department of Defense at Redstone Arsenal. He served as a Branch Chief with the Army's Corporal Missile system and later became Chief of the Planning and Future Missile System Branch. Roy was instrumental in implementing the Patriot Missile System.

He was a long-time member of Huntsville's First Baptist Church, and upon retirement back to MS, joined Liberty Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school.

Visitation will be held at Liberty Baptist Church , 6344 Highway 493, DeKalb, MS 39328 Sunday, December 28th at 2:00pm and the service at 3:00pm. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Liberty Baptist Church.
