Mr. Junior "Jim" Smith Johnson, age 90, of Madison, Indiana entered this life in Prentiss County, Mississippi the oldest of three children to Asberry Jackson and Harriet Rachel Searcy Johnson of Booneville, Mississippi. He was a graduate of Burton High School. Upon graduation he joined the Army Air Force on July 2, 1943 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi and rose to the rate of gunnery Sergeant serving in the 76th AAF Base Unit during World War II. He was honorably discharged on February 15, 1946 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi receiving the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the American Theater Operations Medal. He attended East Mississippi Community College where he met his future wife of sixty one years Bobbie Jean Young. He graduated from Mississippi State University on the GI Bill of Rights in 1950. Junior and Bobbie were united in marriage on September 8, 1948 in Lee County, Mississippi and welcomed three daughters into their home.He resided in Carroll County Kentucky for several years before moving to Madison in 1958. He began working at Indiana Kentucky Electric Corporation as it was being built as a member of the yard, eventually rising to Vice President before retiring in 1989 with over 36 years of service. He was a member of North Madison Baptist Church. As a dedicated member of the Madison Lions Club since 1964, he served as a past president and was named a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was an accomplished gardener who grew prize winning tomatoes and was a devoted tinkerer. He and Bobbie visited all fifty states and visited Europe several times. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather and took great delight in his children and grandchildren's accomplishments. Jim's daughter stated, dad was just a good man. Junior died on Thursday, December 25, 2014, at 2:25 p.m. at the Forum At The Crossing in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Junior will be missed by his loving daughters, Judy West and her husband, Michael of Knoxville, Tennessee, Linda J. Bennett of Indianapolis, Indiana, Louise Johnson of Boston, Massachusetts; his grandchildren, William J. Bennett, Stacy L. Bennett, Anna K. Bennett Childers (Christopher), Jason T. Henry (Sara), Matthew A. Henry, Jessica Henry Kray (Jason), Lindsey M. West Kinney (Phillip), Chase M. West, and Paige M. West; his three great grandchildren; his loving sisters, Lourine Lowery of Booneville, Mississippi, Bobbie Jean Wilemon and her husband, J.P. of Belmont, Mississippi; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Asberry Jackson and Harriet Rachel Searcy Johnson, his wife of sixty one years, Bobbie J. Young Johnson, died December 31, 2009.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., by Pastor Frank McGee at the North Madison Baptist Church, 1906 Orchard Street in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana

Friends may call Monday from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive Madison, Indiana and Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the North Madison Baptist Church, 1906 Orchard Street in Madison, Indiana.

A final salute will be conducted on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the North Madison Baptist Church, 1906 Orchard Street in Madison, Indiana by Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion with full military honors to follow at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel.

Madison Lions Club will conduct a service on Monday at 7:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre.
