Mrs. Vilate Bean Johnson, 82, widow of Abram Johnson, former mayor and legislator of Mt. Pleasant, died of arteriole sclerosis Thursday at her residence.

A daughter of George W. and Mary Jane Wall Bean, pioneers of 1847, she was born April 27, 1884, in Provo. She resided for several years in Mt. Pleasant prior to coming to Salt Lake City in 1918.

Mrs. Johnson was a charter member of the 20th Century Club and from 1910 to 1926 served as vice president of the Wasatch Mercantile Co. in Mt. Pleasant. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was a counselor in Mt. Pleasant ninth Ward Relief Society presidency, and a visiting Relief Society teacher in Waterloo and Belvedere wards in Salt Lake City. She was married to Mr. Johnson Aug. 28, 1884, in the Salt Lake LDS temple. He died in 1915.

Survivors include a son, Virginia I. Johnson and two daughters, Mrs. Mabel J. Purle and Mrs. Geneva H. Johnson, all of Salt Lake City; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; four brothers and four sisters; Virginia Bean, Alladena, Cal.; Bert Bean, Van Nuys, Cal.; Isaac Bean and Mrs. Emma Bell, Richfield; William Bean, Mrs. Melissa Clark and Mrs. Flora H. Horne, Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Lewis Taylor, Idaho Falls.
