Born in Dexter, she was the daughter of the late Ross and Mattie Bowles Halliday.
Mrs. Mutchler was a graduate of Rutland High School and attended Ohio University. She taught elementary school in Meigs County early in life. She and her husband lived in Chicago for 24 years before coming to Athens in 1948. Her husband was a former Professor of Art at Ohio University, and was a former resident of Rutland.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Athens., and United Methodist Women. Mrs. Mutchler was a member and past president of Nabby Lee Ames Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of Higley Study Club, Athens Delphian Club and Lydia Lash Evans Club. She won prizes for her poetry in Ohio and Illinois.
She is survived by a son, Keith of Athens; a son and daughter-in-law, Dwight (Chip) and Carol of Cincinnati; three grandchildren, Karen Ritter of Edmonton, Okla., Diane Mutchler of Columbus, and Eric Mutchler of Cincinnati; a great-grandson, Jonathan Ritter of Edmonton, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight; four sisters, Elsie, Gladys, Myrtle and Mildred, and two brothers, Carroll and Wade Halliday.
Services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home in Athens, with the Rev. Daniel Kiger officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
